Welcome to Poet's Letter Magazine European Politics Europe Editor: Application Sought Be the One of 2000 Poet's Letter Subscribers To buy a copy of Poet's Letter Magazine or subscribe please come to Poet's Letter Poetry Performance and Live Music at Poetry Cafe, 22 Betterton Street (Covent Garden): Monday, Nov, 13th, 7 p.m Europe: Locating Europe in the Debate Poet's Letter invites everyone to get involved in this debate. The myth of Brussels has been well fuelled in the UK. Brussels offers a mythical energy to some politicians who would keep it in their bags like their asthma pump, just in case they might need it to revive their career. When British politicians talk of Europe they try hard to portray an image of an of a far far away land full of tigers, lions, monsters and dragons and they go to extraordinary lengths just to ensure that we get the sense absoluted in our little heads which have apparently no brain cells in them that UK is no part of that thing called Europe! Therefore, the question that lurches is: if Europe is a far away land and we are not part of it then where are we? Where is the UK and where is Europe! The fact is, even if we are surrounded by waters, that we are part of the European landscape which enjoys lands, skies and seas and therefore we are not outside Europe and we no longer live in the age of pigeon-messaging service whereby most European cities are between one and a few hours away. We could walk there, bike there, train there, drive there, swim there, ferry there and fly there! Then why are politicians creating this so called debate about Europe and joining it and not joining it! Remember Mr Hague’s now ridiculous pound coin which he wanted to "save" and no one could save him. Mr Howard wanted to repel Human Rights Act and lot more beside it and he became history too! What is so much wrong with Europe! What has gone drastically wrong in the Euro Zone! Have the Germans lost anything by abandoning their deutch Mark or French by declraing the days of Franc into oblivion? Nothing happened. No one is crying about their old names of the currencies! What would go wrong in the UK. In actual fact people should take a look at the way our young people are developing today: they are much more open, much more confident, much more versatile and outgoing! They are taking years out and going to see the world, working in good causes, not just in Europe but in the whole wide world. To them the world is one entity. Young generation of Europe is much more in tune with each other and more readily accept and celebrate their European identity. It is the politicians who still would like to hang onto the so called past glory! There is nothing wrong with laws, regulations and directive coming from Brussels as there are nothing wrong when they are coming from Westminster or Edinburgh or Cardiff. Why is the case, we may be asked. The answer is simple: The very people who are behind these laws, regulations and directives have been elected by the peoples of Europe and therefore they ought to enjoy the equal amount of moral, political, social and cultural validity, if not more, because of the fact that more people are involved in this process! There is nothing so much very special about UK parliament. British Parliament is elected so is the European Parliament! The very way the whole UK parliamentary constituencies enjoy and should do so, greater moral and political weight than a single constituency the same very way European Parliament should enjoy the same because of the wider participation of nations of people. But the problem is in the fact that our politicians would not want that even if the people do take that view. We would like to take this debate further. We are inviting every one to write in with their opinion whatever they may be, for and against Europe and Britain’s place in it. We are not just looking for opinion but seeking to find out about the argument you may have in support of your opinion. Logical, rational and non prejudicial expression of opinions sought but no hateful opinions are either sought or would be published. Let us spend some time in Europe because Europe is getting bigger in a world that is getting smaller by the day and we have to soon find our way into this tiny world where a race of living things live, called humanity that is forced in a position of definitive extinction if we do not wake up and do something about it. Therefore, it is not just about the UK or even Europe but about the whole globe too and when writing about Europe we would like you to consider where and what Europe take us towards in the wider global future. We would publish as many opinions as possible (without any editing). The best piece of writing would be awarded a £50 cash prize. So get the pen spelling UK, Europe and the globe and use punctuation with humanity’s colours.
